Hazel Grace Lancaster
Hazel Grace Lancaster, born on September 29th and aged sixteen, is the main character of The Fault in Our Stars, the book is written from her perspective. She does not have siblings and is the daughter to Mrs and Mr Lancaster, friend of Isaac and girlfriend of Augustus Waters. Hazel has finished high school early and has already begun to pursue a college education. She is diagnosed with Stage 4 Thyroid cancer with metastasis forming in her lungs, but has managed to live with her disease owing to doeses of an experimental drug called Phalanxifor.
Hazel is described as having short dark hair and green eyes, she describes herself as having 'chipmunk cheeks' from steroidal treatment. She suffers from stage four thyroid cancer that had spread to her lungs. For this reason, Hazel must carry an oxygen tank and nasal cannulas wherever she goes.

Augustus is described as being very attractive as well as intelligent and having dark hair. His greatest fear is oblivion, as he wants to make a mark on the world and he hates the idea of not leaving a mark at all.
Augustus knew Isaac before the Support Group, the single and sole reason he was there was because he wanted to support Isaac, before undergoing surgery and going blind.
Augustus' physical appearance isn't very well explained, Hazel says that he has dark hair, blue eyes, he's tall and well built- seeing as he used to play basketball.

Lidewij Vligenthart was Peter Van Houten's assisstant in Amsterdam before she resigned upon realising how heartless he could be. She showed Augustus and Hazel around Amsterdam, to places such as to the Anne Frank house and she had treated them to an elaborate meal on their first day of visit.
Lidewij was also the one who originally forwarded Hazel and Augustus'mails to Peter Van Houten. She had done this in hopes that Peter would be inspired, give up on alcohol and begin to write again.
